Christopher Zacca, president and CEO of Sagicor Group Jamaica

The Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica (PSOJ) has proudly announced the induction of Christopher Zacca, President and CEO of Sagicor Group Jamaica, into its prestigious Hall of Fame. This accolade marks the 30th anniversary of the PSOJ Hall of Fame, an honor reserved for exceptional business leaders who have profoundly impacted Jamaica’s private sector.

Christopher Zacca, the 30th individual to receive this honor, has a remarkable career spanning nearly four decades. His leadership and innovative approach have significantly contributed to the growth and transformation of Jamaica’s economy. Zacca took the reins at Sagicor Group Jamaica in May 2017 and has since blended business expertise with a deep commitment to philanthropy. Under his guidance, Sagicor Group Jamaica invested over J$20 billion in 2023 alone, a substantial boost to Jamaica’s economic development.

Before his tenure at Sagicor, Zacca’s career was marked by influential roles at several leading Jamaican companies, including Red Stripe, the ATL Group, The Jamaica Observer, and Air Jamaica. His vast experience also extends to serving on the boards of internationally recognized entities such as Sandals Resorts and the Nasdaq-listed Playa Hotels and Resorts.

Beyond his corporate achievements, Zacca has made significant contributions to public service and national development. As the longest-serving past president of the PSOJ, he led the organization through two separate terms, championing public-private partnerships and spearheading initiatives that have left an enduring mark on the nation. Among his notable contributions was his pivotal role in reshaping Jamaica’s energy sector, leading to the establishment of the Electricity Sector Enterprise Team (ESET). Additionally, as a founding member of the Economic Programme Oversight Committee (EPOC), Zacca provided critical oversight during Jamaica’s transformative agreement with the International Monetary Fund in 2013.

During the challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic, Zacca’s dedication to national welfare was evident. He led a private-sector donor group that raised J$75 million for crucial life-saving initiatives. Moreover, he chaired the Private Sector COVID-19 Vaccine Initiative and served on Prime Minister Andrew Holness’ COVID-19 Economic Recovery Task Force, showcasing his commitment to public health and economic stability.

In recognition of his extensive contributions to business, philanthropy, and public service, Zacca was honored with the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander (CD) in 2014. The PSOJ, in a statement, highlighted that “his accomplishments across business, philanthropy, public service, and national development make him an extraordinarily worthy inductee into the PSOJ Hall of Fame.”

The 30th Anniversary PSOJ Hall of Fame Induction Banquet, scheduled for October 31, will celebrate Zacca’s remarkable achievements and his influential role in shaping the future of Jamaica’s private sector.
