Empowering Communities: Supreme Ventures Foundation Celebrates Labour Day with Supreme Heroes

Supreme Ventures team members, Life Yard, the Reggae Boyz, painters, community members and children, gather in unity, showcasing collective spirit and community engagement as part of Life Yard’s 2024 Labour Day activities

In a heartwarming display of unity and community engagement, team members from Supreme Ventures, Life Yard, the Reggae Boyz, local painters, community members, and children came together for Life Yard’s 2024 Labour Day activities. This collaborative effort showcased the collective spirit and dedication towards community empowerment and development.

The Supreme Ventures Foundation (SVF), the philanthropic arm of Supreme Ventures Limited, spearheaded this Labour Day initiative, focusing on uplifting past participants of its esteemed Supreme Heroes programme. The SVF is dedicated to implementing transformational projects aimed at significantly impacting Jamaica’s social well-being, with a vision that includes advancements in public healthcare, education through information technology, and sports development.

This year, seven Supreme Heroes each received a grant of J$100,000.00 to support their community projects. These projects were brought to life by volunteers from the Supreme Ventures family, who actively participated in the Labour Day activities across St. James, St. Catherine, Kingston, and St. Andrew, demonstrating the programme’s wide-reaching influence.

Initiated in 2019, the Supreme Heroes programme is an innovative outreach effort that identifies and supports unsung heroes in Jamaica. These heroes, often small business owners, use their limited resources to provide vital assistance to their communities. Since its inception, the programme has awarded over J$4M in grants. Heroes are chosen through public nominations, shortlisted by SVF and project partner Changemakers, and the winners selected by public votes and an SVF judging panel.

Heather Goldson, SVF Director, highlighted the initiative’s enduring impact. “The Supreme Heroes Programme embodies the spirit of community and resilience at the heart of the Supreme Ventures Foundation. By supporting these remarkable individuals, we not only uplift their efforts but also inspire others to contribute to the greater good. This Labour Day initiative is more than just a one-day event; it is a testament to the enduring power of collaboration and the profound impact that dedicated community service can have.”

Jennifer Brown, affectionately known as ‘Miss Jenny’ and the programme’s inaugural winner, shared her personal journey and the motivation behind her community work. “As a single mother of six, I lost one of my sons to gang violence. I believe if there had been a place to support and educate him, it could have kept him safe. This experience drove me to create a positive space in my community.”

Anesha Miller, winner of the programme’s second cohort, expressed her gratitude for SVF’s support. “I sincerely thank the Supreme Ventures Foundation for the good work they are doing in my community and across Jamaica.”

The Supreme Heroes programme, a cornerstone of SVF’s commitment to social good, goes beyond grants by providing capacity-building training through the Mona School of Business’ Mona Entrepreneurial Commercialisation Centre (MECC), equipping heroes with essential business administration skills.
