Explosion at Burger King in New Kingston Injures Six; Investigation Underway

A significant explosion rocked the Burger King restaurant in New Kingston today, leaving six people injured. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported. The incident, which occurred at around 10:36 a.m., caused extensive damage to the restaurant located at 61 Knutsford Boulevard.

The Jamaica Fire Brigade, led by Senior Superintendent Patrick Gooden, responded swiftly to the scene. By the time they arrived, six injured individuals had already been transported to a hospital for medical treatment. Initial assessments indicate substantial damage to the building, though it remains unclear if nearby structures were affected.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a gas leak may have triggered the explosion. However, Superintendent Gooden noted that the investigation is ongoing to verify the exact cause of the blast and assess any additional damage to adjacent buildings.

Restaurant Associates Limited (RAL), which operates the Burger King franchise in Jamaica, has addressed the incident in an official statement. According to RAL, a gas leak had been identified earlier, leading to a temporary closure of the restaurant while technicians worked to resolve the issue. The site was deemed safe after the service provider’s inspection, and operations resumed. However, an explosion occurred shortly thereafter.

RAL confirmed that three of the six injured employees displayed visible injuries, while all six were promptly taken to the hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Fortunately, no lives were lost in the explosion. The company expressed its commitment to cooperating fully with authorities in the ongoing investigation.

“Our focus at this time is the well-being of those affected,” RAL’s statement reads. “We are grateful to the first responders and are committed to maintaining the safety of all individuals in our restaurants.”
