Westmoreland, Jamaica – May 2025 — InterEnergy Group, a leading force in the clean energy transition across Latin America and the Caribbean, has announced its acquisition of the Paradise Park solar facility in Westmoreland, Jamaica. This strategic move marks a significant milestone in the region’s renewable energy development and solidifies InterEnergy’s growing presence in the Jamaican energy market.

Originally developed by Eight Rivers Energy Company (EREC), Paradise Park is Jamaica’s largest photovoltaic (PV) plant. With a generation capacity of 51 megawatts peak (MWp), the facility has been operational since 2019 and delivers over 80 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually to the national grid—making it Jamaica’s most cost-effective solar energy provider.

The solar installation also contributes to Jamaica’s environmental targets by offsetting approximately 13,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year. This reduction is equivalent to powering around 20,000 Jamaican homes with sustainable energy.

Driving Regional Clean Energy Growth

InterEnergy’s acquisition of Paradise Park is part of a broader strategy to deploy an additional 110 MW of renewable energy capacity throughout the Caribbean and Central America by 2025. The move boosts the company’s portfolio in Jamaica to more than 85 MW of renewable energy assets.

“This acquisition aligns with our vision for a more sustainable energy future,” said Rolando González Bunster, Chairman and CEO of InterEnergy Group. “It represents an investment not only in renewable infrastructure, but in the well-being of communities and the planet. Jamaica stands out as a remarkable example of the transformative power of clean energy.”

Currently, over 80% of InterEnergy’s 2.5-gigawatt (GW) regional portfolio consists of renewable and low-emission assets, including solar, wind, and natural gas technologies.

Strengthening Reliability and Innovation

Dr. Wayne McKenzie, OD, Country Manager of InterEnergy Jamaica, emphasized the company’s dual focus on reliability and innovation.

“As Jamaica’s largest independent power producer, we understand the critical role we play in ensuring energy reliability while advancing the transition to renewables. This expansion is not just about growth—it’s about delivering dependable power while accelerating innovation for future generations,” he stated.

In addition to its solar assets, InterEnergy Jamaica continues to operate 250 MW of thermal generation capacity to support grid stability. The acquisition of EREC’s 87.3 MW further diversifies and strengthens InterEnergy’s balanced energy mix.

A Legacy of Regional Impact

Founded over three decades ago, InterEnergy operates across several countries, including the Dominican Republic, Panama, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Through its subsidiary Evergo, the company also spearheads electric mobility, managing the largest electric vehicle (EV) charging network in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The acquisition of Paradise Park underscores InterEnergy’s pivotal role in the region’s energy transformation and reaffirms Jamaica’s status as a front-runner in the adoption of sustainable, renewable power.
