Island Grill’s Generous Contribution to Labour Day Volunteers at Kingston & St. Andrew Jamaica Red Cross

Kingston, St. Andrew – On a sweltering Thursday afternoon, May 23, 2024, Island Grill made a significant contribution to the community by providing YABBA lunches to volunteers at the Kingston & St. Andrew branch of the Jamaica Red Cross. The refreshments were delivered by Island Grill’s Senior Marketing Officer, Denille Ashwood-Bahadosingh, and Marketing Officer, Kai Tapper.
The event was marked by the presence of the branch chairman, Lancelot McCalla, who expressed his gratitude to Island Grill. “We’re elated that Island Grill chose us because they could’ve chosen anywhere else,” McCalla said. The gesture highlights Island Grill’s commitment to supporting local communities, especially those in close proximity to their establishments.
Mrs. Ashwood-Bahadosingh emphasized the company’s dedication to giving back, noting that the branch is close to their Cross Road location, making the initiative a gesture of goodwill towards their neighbors. In appreciation, Mr. McCalla presented Mrs. Bahadosingh with the iconic Red Cross backpack on behalf of the branch.

The provided lunches supported thirty volunteers involved in beautification activities, including cleaning the Wellness Room, upgrading Emergency Room equipment, and reviving a garden by planting various vegetables such as tomatoes, peppers, callaloo, cucumbers, lettuce, pak choi, and spinach. These vegetables are intended to support the Meals on Wheels program, which supplies daily lunches to senior citizens from Monday to Friday.
Branch Director Vinette Fennell highlighted the impact of the Meals on Wheels program, which feeds over 100 needy individuals weekly in Kingston and surrounding areas. The Jamaica Red Cross operates 13 branches across the island, with Kingston and St. Andrew sharing a single branch.
