Jamaica Paralympic Association Gains Major Boost with Uber Sponsorship

The Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA) has received a significant boost in its mission to empower athletes with disabilities, thanks to a generous USD $12,500 sponsorship from the global ride-sharing giant Uber. This partnership aligns with Uber’s worldwide social impact initiative, which is designed to enhance accessibility and mobility for individuals with disabilities across the globe.

Uber’s involvement underscores its dedication to facilitating movement for everyone, regardless of physical abilities. “Supporting the mobility of all individuals is central to our mission at Uber. We are thrilled to sponsor Jamaica’s para-athletes, who continue to inspire with their resilience and talent. This sponsorship reflects our commitment to inclusion and accessibility. We want to empower everyone to move confidently and freely, irrespective of their abilities. We celebrate these remarkable athletes and are eager to support their journey every step of the way,” Uber stated.

Christopher Samuda, President of the JPA, expressed heartfelt appreciation for Uber’s timely contribution, emphasizing its impact on the association’s objectives. “This sponsorship is crucial as it enables us to better prepare our athletes for competitions and fosters more inclusive sporting opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Our partnership with Uber is pivotal, as it bolsters our ongoing efforts to use sports as a vehicle for promoting independent mobility and supporting the aspirations of persons with disabilities,” said Samuda.

Uber’s commitment to the JPA is part of a broader global initiative, extending support to various countries, including France, Spain, Ireland, Costa Rica, and Colombia. This widespread backing highlights Uber’s dedication to improving mobility worldwide. Theador Subba, a Paralympian and bronze medalist in the Men’s +100 kg judo class at the Lima 2019 Parapan American Games, acknowledged the importance of Uber’s support. “Uber’s sponsorship allows us to focus entirely on our preparation and to perform at our best in every competition. Their dedication to our cause is a source of inspiration that drives us to keep pushing forward,” Subba remarked.

Uber continues to advance its mission to empower people with disabilities by offering tailored mobility solutions. The Uber app includes features such as real-time trip sharing and contactless payment options, enhancing the overall user experience. Furthermore, Uber’s strict non-discrimination policies ensure that every journey is inclusive. As Uber continues to innovate within its operating regions, it remains steadfast in its goal to provide transportation solutions that seamlessly integrate comfort and ease into the daily lives of its users.
