JUTA Tours Launches New Express Bus Service, Set to Compete with Knutsford Express on Kingston-Montego Bay Route

Jamaican ground transportation leader, JUTA Tours, is preparing to launch a new express bus service aimed at the popular Kingston-Montego Bay route, positioning it as a direct competitor to the well-established Knutsford Express. Scheduled to commence by year-end, this service will increase travel options for passengers along one of Jamaica’s most frequently traveled routes.
Operating two daily trips in each direction, JUTA will use King Long buses, produced in China, to provide high-quality and comfortable transportation. “This express service will cater to the traveling public,” remarked Noel Williams, the president of JUTA’s Kingston Chapter.
JUTA, which has been serving Jamaica since 1973, was initially founded as the Jamaica Union of Travelers Association, becoming a registered company in 1974. Since then, it has grown into a significant player in domestic tourism and transport with branches in Kingston, Mandeville, Port Antonio, Montego Bay, Ocho Rios, Falmouth, Negril, and Lucea.
For its initial phase, the new express buses will make stops in Ocho Rios and Falmouth during trips between Kingston and Montego Bay, with plans to extend service to Negril and the south coast if passenger demand supports it. Departing from JUTA’s Kingston depot on Lady Musgrave Road, the buses will arrive in Montego Bay at JUTA’s Claude Clarke Avenue office, with a secondary Montego Bay location being explored to improve accessibility. “We are finalizing locations and aim to start operations before the December holiday season,” Williams explained.
Knutsford Express, the incumbent luxury coach service along the same route, has yet to comment on the forthcoming competition. Meanwhile, JUTA is focusing on differentiating its service by emphasizing comfort and convenience, both hallmarks of its long-standing brand.
Although ticket prices remain undecided, Williams has hinted that JUTA’s fare structure may not match those of existing providers but will offer unique selling points. Ticketing will be made convenient through various channels, including an online app, enhancing accessibility for customers. The initial fleet for the service will consist of 55-seater and 60-seater buses, alongside smaller Coaster buses depending on demand levels.
This new express service not only marks a significant expansion for JUTA but also presents travelers with an alternative option, reinforcing the company’s commitment to quality and passenger satisfaction. As the service gears up for launch, JUTA has initiated a marketing campaign both locally and internationally, aiming to boost awareness and attract travelers to this fresh option in Jamaican ground transportation.
