Landmark Manufacture 360 Conference Elevates Jamaica’s Manufacturing Sector

In a landmark event for Jamaica’s manufacturing sector, the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA) orchestrated its premier Manufacture 360 Conference on Wednesday, May 8, 2024. Held at the prestigious AC Hotel and hosted by Ms. Khalilah Reynolds, the conference convened a distinguished gathering of international experts, government officials, and industry leaders to delve into the critical facets shaping the manufacturing landscape.
Spearheaded by prominent sponsors such as Kingston Wharves, Caribbean Cement Company, National Commercial Bank, Visa, Grace Kennedy, and JPS, among others, the conference heralded a pivotal moment for the sector.
Key themes underpinning discussions encompassed manufacturing skills enhancement, sustainability, the future trajectory of Jamaica’s manufacturing sector, innovative financing avenues, and strategies for growth via mergers and acquisitions.
In an exclusive interview with BATV, Miss Kamesha Blake, Executive Director of JMEA, articulated the genesis of the Manufacture 360 Conference. “The conception of this conference has been germinating for the past two years. Amidst the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, hyperinflation, and supply chain disruptions, we’ve witnessed robust growth in the industry. This propelled us to convene stakeholders, business magnates, and international luminaries to dissect the evolving manufacturing landscape in Jamaica,” Blake shared.
Expressing gratitude for the overwhelming support received, Miss Blake emphasized the potential for the conference to evolve into an annual affair, inviting further collaborations and partnerships.
The conference witnessed notable addresses from governmental dignitaries, including Dr. Dana Morris Dixon, the Minister of Skills and Digital Transformation, alongside a keynote speech by Minister of Industry, Investment, and Commerce, Senator Aubyn Hill.

Panel discussions throughout the day explored pivotal topics, including sustainability, where Mr. Christopher Levy highlighted the transformative potential of emerging technologies. “Technology, spanning from AI to satellite communication with Starlink, is revolutionizing manufacturing. However, challenges such as exorbitant energy costs impede sectoral growth, underscoring the imperative for enhanced productivity and efficiency,” emphasized Levy.
International perspectives were enriched by luminaries like Dr. Daniel Tromans, Head of Service Delivery and Responsible Officer at EAL Awards, Enginuity Group, who expounded on leveraging apprenticeship models to augment skill sets in manufacturing.
The National Commercial Bank injected an interactive dimension with an icebreaker session, offering financial counsel to a fortunate recipient through a raffle.
Additional sessions covered innovative financing mechanisms, navigating logistics complexities, exploring e-commerce avenues, and strategies for catalyzing growth through mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Sydney Thwaites concluded proceedings with a vote of thanks, underscoring the collaborative spirit and collective vision that underscored the inaugural Manufacture 360 Conference.
The event not only symbolized a milestone for Jamaica’s manufacturing sector but also underscored the imperative for sustained dialogue, innovation, and collaboration to propel the industry toward unprecedented heights.
