Mastercard, a global leader in the technology industry specializing in payments, launched its first-ever “Mastercard Day” in Jamaica, marking a significant milestone in the company’s mission to accelerate the digital transformation of the Caribbean region. The event, held in the vibrant city of Kingston, brought together top executives and representatives from leading
financial and technological institutions to delve into emerging trends, address challenges, and seize opportunities within the dynamic payments ecosystem.

One of the event’s core themes was the evolving preferences of Caribbean consumers in embracing technological advancements. Insights from Mastercard’s recent Consumer Payments Behavior Report highlighted that a striking 93% of Jamaicans are comfortable with utilizing new technologies, with over 51% already adopting debit cards for their daily purchases. This reflects a growing shift towards digital payments and a cashless economy in the region.

Industry experts and critical stakeholders led engaging sessions on a variety of crucial topics, including global trends in travel and leisure activities, the impact of new payment technologies on user experiences, the rise of cross-border transactions facilitating secure and transparent payments, the importance of collaborative cybersecurity practices, and the potential of public-private partnerships in driving transformative digital initiatives across the region.
